You can invent an identity. Or you can discover it: When the world-class orchestra celebrated its 125th anniversary, the jubilee was to be celebrated with a new and fresh iconography. We asked: why create something on top of that, when you can look closely at the philharmonic’s historic logo and see that history and present is already embedded there?
The Munich Philharmonic has been one of the world’s leading orchestras for 125 years. To celebrate its anniversary, we developed an identity that would enhance, instead of compete with the existing design. Because if one looks closely, the number 125 has always been hidden inside the three stripes that make up the philharmonic’s logo and which represent the musicians' values. All we had to do to make it visible, was rotate it. This striking combination creates a moving design for the anniversary of the Munich Philharmonic, which can play to its strengths in both analogue and animated formats in digital media.
